Non-Counting Pictures

Is that WW2 or Vietnam era? I’d love to see this in person.
that;s from world war 2... ..i don;t think they used them in vietnam.. ... but up until just a few years ago there was a company here using them as tourist vehicles.... they bought ww2 surplus amphibs and painted them in bright colors..... ...they would travel down roads a little slower than regular traffic...filled with tourists.... then enter and exit the ocean at various boat ramps... ..i never did ride in one coz once in the water they didn;t look like had any more freeboard than one of our kayaks... ....... ..now days companies that want to do things like that use a newer russian made amphibious vehicle.. ... but not here..... i have only seen them around seattle... ... here is one parked outside the uss hornet museum at alameda naval base.....

There were a couple of models used in Vietnam, but it looks like they were pretty rare compared to WW2:

those vehicles... like the blue one in seattle i posted a picture of... while inspired by the ww2 amphib - (known as the duck by the way)... where built from the ground up as amphibs.... ...but the one from ww2 in my first picture was simply a standard military 2 and 1/2 ton truck chassis and drive train with a water tight shell of sheet metal built around it.... and fitted with a modified rear axle.... .. they ended up being very versatile and adaptable... but were never meant to last as long as some of them did... ...a smaller version was built using a m2a military jeep and water tight shell ... and called the "seep".... it wasn;t as successful as the duck.....

there have been many different military amphibs built since vietnam still in use today.... such as the u.s. amtrac... and the russian 8 wheeled amphib i can;t remember the name of.... good as troop carriers but they dont; function well as civilian and tourist vehicles.... they use them in maneuvers and wargames around the islands here a lot..... especially during rimpac...

I’m kind of shocked they test this stuff out in Hawaii. Doesn’t your coast get drastically deep just yards off shore?
